I was wondering, since the X configuration is so flexible, that isn't it
possible to run the SVGA server in exactly 768x576. I'm sure one can get
sync frequencies etc. corresponding to these somewhere. I remember once
running my X server in an unusual resolution of 900x700 or something like
that. Even if you can't get this data, here is a way you might generate it
somehow.

1. Make some fictious but not out of bound data, i mean tweak the 800x600
settings to get one for 768x576.
2. Run the server in 768x576 mode. If you are lucky, something would show
up, although it might be flickering or out of monitor range somehow.
3. If you can somehow manage to see something, fire up the program
"xvidtune", an excellent program for adjusting sync rates.
Adjust the settings manually. I dont see any reason why it should'nt work.

WARNING: running xvidtune is at your own risk, as stated in its
documentation.

It's because of the maximum dot clock it can handle, and not because of
interlacing alone. Many monitors even after being interlaced are good.
A TV is built to support a refresh rate of 50/60 Hz at this resolution
whereas a monitor accepts uptil 72 Hz at a greater resolution.
