Vsnl connection

Many times I am unable to connect to vsnl using kppp(using script). I
get all funny characters after connect when username is expected. I
thought as they have said pap is operative. I tried pap also. It hangs
starting pppd. it is not getting connected. Sometimes it is getting
connected using kppp script.
why so? any solutions.
