cdrecord has one option to blank out the cr-rw's. Well I have not
checked it. Maybe you can give it a try.

If you want to burn cd's, you can use mkisofs/mkhybrid and then use
cdrecord to burn it. I have a bad experience with the Adaptec Direct
CD that came with HP7100i drive. When I burnt the cd, I could not read
it on any other system other than particular version of Win95 and
above. I am currently using a Hi-Val(ide rewritable drive) drive under
linux. Of course, I have not tried cd-rw's. Presently they are too
expensive (Rs. 800 as against Rs. 85). I can junk the old cdr's if I
want to create a new one.

Hope that helps,
