No!! That depends on how you invoke 'su'. What you say happens if you use
#su
But if you use
#su -
you get the environment of root. Just the DISPLAY and variable (or maybe
some other variables) are not set. But you can always export them. eg.
Whenever I 'su -', I also do 'export DISPLAY=localhost:0' so that I can
launch any gui app with the priviledges of root.

It's not only that ;-) It's also that you can do ANYTHING just the way you
do when you *login* as root. Am I right??
