Regarding Sound Module in Linux!!

Hi there!!	
	I am working on a project in Multimedia which needs me to play
music from my program. I am not that very good at linux internals and i
want to ask does anyone know how to play sound using a C program.I mean
that how to access sound module from my program in C.  Do we
have a C library meeting my problem which i need to download!!! Please
mail me the solution to the problem quickly!!!
