Ditto here .... redhat 6.2
[root@mjollnir] ~# ls -l /dev/null
crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 1, 3 May 6 1998 /dev/null
As for the cookies which you tried to alias to dev/null ...
[suresh@mjollnir] ~/.netscape$ ls -al |grep cookies
-rw------- 1 suresh suresh 200 Aug 22 16:04 cookies
How and where does the group 'sys' turn up?
