You can check out these two articles in PCQ The first one is a generic
introduction to PAM, and the second one a step-by-step guide to get PAM to
authenticate against LDAP.

I've actually gone a step further and written some tools to let you integrate
passwords with Samba TNG using LDAP. You can find the code at
http://www.freshmeat.net/projects/ldaputils . BEWARE, it is beta stuff, as is
TNG.
