Sound problem on XWAVE

hi ppl,
This is a very old problem with linux....
lack of support for hardware...
Mine is a XWAVE soundcard....and redhat linux 7.0 does not
supports it....so i got the drivers from alsa-project.org
as it said and configured installed as it said.
After it was compiled the code it said that it was successfully
done but mentioned that the volume may be mute and required
some mixer.
Got the mixer also....compiled but still no sound
...perhaps i missed something or do not know how to
use the mixer...???
can anybody help????
