multiple distros in the same hard disk

Dunno if this will work.  But worth a shot.

# boot into mandrake.
# mkdir /boot-rh
# mount /dev/hda3 /boot-rh
  # Edit the fstab appropriately to do this automatically at boot.
  # Edit lilo.conf under mandrake to use /boot-rh/redhat-kernel-image
# lilo -v

If this works, to make life easier under RH do vice versa.  i.e make a
/boot-mdk and edit rh-lilo.conf appropriately to use
/boot-mdk/mdk-kernel.
