	I think they are pid's of running processes.  Sicne you are a
software engg. I'd suggest you grab a good introductory book on linux
programming etc. and read it (I mean no offence).  If not atleast read the
installation and getting started guide + sys admin guide from
http://www.linuxdoc.org  the stuff could also be on your linux machine if
you have installed the right packages.
