backspace is not working in Xwindows except in xterm.

I am not able to use the backspace in all appln. under Xwindows except in 
xterm ( my typing was improved now very much :-)) . Earlier I used RHL6.0.
Just now I upgraded to RHL6.1. From that
point onwards, this problem started.  any solution please?
