How to change color to 16bit (800x600) in RHL6.0 ?

hi,

  How to change color to 16bit color (800x600) in rhl 6.0 ?  In
XF86Config file I have given all the three 8, 16, & 24 bit option. By
default it is going into 8bit (800x600) mode.  how to change it to 16
bit.
