How to use gdb in LINUX?

Dear friends,

  I am doing image processing work under LINUX for a project.  Earlier I
was using Turbo C++ compiler under win95.  Now I have switched all my
works to Redhat Linux 6.0 since the GIMP tool is wonderful for my work. 
However I find difficulty in debugging my program. Can any body give me
a small eg. on how to use gdb?
